Well, it would appear that we have a new homophobic pope on our hands. Fighting hate with hate will accomplish nothing, move forward with love, preach education and acceptance. The world is changing for the better, it can only be my most optimistic hope that the Catholic Church opens their mind to accept love, and cease the spread of hatred.

It is not who you love that matters, it is how you love.

The words above are just a few of the things that have been said to me about being trans. Some were from anonymous people, some were from friends. From people that I love and care for. The things have been said behind my back and even to my face.
Before I started therapy, phrases like the ones above really got to me. It got to a point where I didn’t believe I was a human at all. I thought I was a monster, an alien, an in between. I can honestly say that I struggled, a lot. Words are still thrown at me now, but I’m able to let them go. Two years later, I’m able to brush stuff like this off because I know who I am.
This was for my ‘Small’ project in my photography class. When my photo came up on the screen for critique, the room was completely silent. After a few minutes, my teacher finally said “You are so beautifully honest, sweetheart. Clearly the words make you feel small, and I’m sorry you’ve had to feel that way.”
She also told me I should make a photo set and see if the local trans* group would like it for a show. I will have to look into that, because there are so many other things I can do with this idea.
